		<description>While it's true that many people see similarities between Agent Smith's odd vocal inflections and Carl Sagan's (and the video synching is ingenius)...it's not true that Hugo Weaving deliberately "based" the Smith character on either Sagan or his vocal mannerisms. Weaving has given dozens of interviews in which he described the process of creating the "Smith voice" and has said it had many inspirations, including 1970s newsreaders (who maintained an artificially detached demeanor), the Mr. Spock character from the old Star Trek series, HAL-9000 from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and the Wachowski brothers themselves. Carl Sagan has never been mentioned, so the similarities are either coincidental or based on a subliminal influence. And certainly Carl Sagan's personality was nothing like Agent Smith's. :)</description>
